My recently acquired used book (The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell). I enjoy buying used books not only for their conveniently cheaper prices depending on the book of course but because each book has its own little story. This one was apparently a gift to a dad from his son. :)

Before I Fall - Audiobook:D

By Lauren Oliver; Read by Sarah Drew

“Maybe you can afford to wait. Maybe for you there’s a tomorrow. Maybe for you there’s one thousand tomorrows, or three thousand, or ten, so much time you can bathe in it, roll around it, let it slide like coins through your fingers. So much time you can waste it. But for some of us there’s only today. And the truth is, you never really know.” -Lauren Oliver, Before I Fall

Your Book Club

Hallo book lovers, literature geeks and story freaks!

It’s almost time for New Year Resolutions and like last year my favourite resolution is to read tons of books. But not like this year, I would love to share the magic of literature with some awesome people in 2013. And where else than tumblr can you find the most awesome people strolling the street of this little world.

And for this I made a tumblr where all book lovers, literature geeks and story freaks can be a Member of. All you have to do is message me about your love of literature. And you can join. Every month we will read, debate and share a book that has been voted as book of the moth.

So go and take a look!

And don’t forget to message, follow and vote!

God’s War by Kameron Hurley

My Review

What an incredible, mind-blowing book. Somewhat in the deep end of the pool when it comes to sci-fi, since there’s not a lot of exposition for world-building (Hurley world-builds through the course of the plot), but the characterization is fantastic (even if the characters aren’t universally likable) and the themes are incredible. It tackles war, religion, race and gender in a way that will make you look at the world around you and wonder, and it makes you look at the way you address those issues.

A Review of Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

My Review

The narrator/protagonist is kind of boring and colorless, but everything else is fantastic :D. It’s like this guy has everything. Awesome roomies? Check. Awesome job? Check. Awesome coworker? Check. Awesome boss? Check. Awesome best friend? Check. Awesome girlfriend? Check. The plot’s ridiculously fun, too, if not as complex as some other novels, and the ending’s nice and tidy, if a bit saccharine.

If only the narrator wasn’t so dang boring!

Only 3%of books published in the United States have been translated from foreign languages, whereas in Europe the percentage is more like 50%. We need to have literature in translation because we need the widest possible diversity of work for people to fall in love with. My hope for Words Without Borders is that it can be a vanguard in the war against ignorance and enable all of us to connect with worlds that are different from our own. We consume delicious foods from around the world, why shouldn’t we consume delicious literature from around the world?—Alane Salierno Mason (Words Without Borders)
