So that’s the closest quotation that I could find that represented why I took this photo. The basic concept was that reading put me out of my misery   and into a newer, possibly better but certainly distant place in ways comparable to the effects hoped to be achieved in death. There is learning to be done and the best and only way, it seems, to do so is to move. Stagnancy has never yielded progress. Reading helps you do this by taking you to Elsewhere, to Otherland where experience is happening. We have to be careful where we travel of course because ideas are contagious and damn near impossible to stop once they’re out there but that’s a whole other conversation. The point is that books, whether it be Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax or Charles Dickens’s The Pickwick Papers, are the world’s greatest trains and teachers, to be taken and paid attention to.
