Lamb to the Slaughter
Roald Dahl is probably one of the wittiest, smartest writers I’ve ever read. He’s so simple and brilliant in his writing. You forget, amongst his plethora of children’s books, that he was a skilful adult writer, and short story writer. If you need proof, read ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’. My only concern is that when I imagined Mary Maloney, I saw a young version of the Queen. Although that’s probably more to do with me than Mr Dahl.
‘Taste’ the first short story in ‘Someone Like You’ (Dahl’s collection of short stories I’m reading) is also fantastic.
