Re-reading The Lovely Bones has done so much good for me in so many ways. As well as having an effect on the type of novels I want to write and stories I want to tell, it’s made me think about life in such a different way. I think I was far too young to appreciate the weight of the symbolism, beauty of the simplicity and effect of honesty in Alice Sebold’s writing. I picked up Lucky a couple of years ago and attempted it, but it was far too gruesome for me to bear. I think I’m ready to give it another go now, as well as investing in her other novel. I think it’s one of the most beautiful stories ever told, and if you haven’t read it, you most definitely should.

The Lovely Bones was the first real novel I appreciated for writing. I cherish my signed copy.
